Standards

The following ANSI standards relate to alarm system use. *Copies of the SIA documents are made freely available to law enforcement agencies and professionals, to obtain a copy of the document please click on the link for the relevant document. NOTE : ANSI/SIA CP-01 and ANSI/SIA PIR-01 are tested and Marked by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. This allows Law Enforcement the ability to gauge compliance with the technical specifications for these two Standards.

POWERPOINT Explaining SIA CP-01 Standard
Control Panel Standard CP-01 - REQUEST COPY *
ANSI/SIA CP-01-2010-REVISED - The first in SIA's series of false alarm standards, it details design features for security system control panels to reduce false alarms in residential and commercial properties. It covers event recognition and information handling sequences, as well as provisions for system layout testing. Addressing both user- and equipment-caused false alarms, it is intended for use or reference by all security industry professionals. The latest 2010 version allows more flexibilty in programming SWINGER SHUTDOWN and the ABORT DELAY. This Standard includes installer programming options and recommended test procedures to help determine compliance to the standard.

ANSI/CSAA CS-V-01 – 2016 - UPDATED CSAA Standard - Alarm Confirmation, Verification and Notification Procedures - This standard defines methods by which false dispatches can be greatly reduced. It has been proven that confirming and verifying an alarm signal by a monitoring central station will drastically reduce false dispatches. This standard takes confirmation to its next level by defining multiple attempt confirmation, biometric, audio and video confirmation. .

Additionally, beyond the use of confirmation in standard or basic security systems, this document defines methods by which a probable crime in progress can be identified and false dispatches can be greatly reduced. Monitoring central stations that use video and audio technologies to assess the probability of a crime in progress help law enforcement to prioritize their resources and drastically reduce false dispatches. This standard takes verification to its next evel by defining audio and video verification techniques as well as multiple attempt confirmation and multi-trip notifications.

Glass Break Standard Standard GB-01 - REQUEST COPY*
SIA GB-01 (1995.01) Details recommended design features for any acoustic glass break sensor in security systems to reduce the incidence of false alarms but preserve detection performance. It also outlines recommended content in manufacturers' instructions for sensor installation and application. It is intended for use or reference by all security industry professionals.

Passive Infra-Red Standard PIR-01 - REQUEST COPY *
ANSI/SIA PIR-01-2000 - This standard details recommended design features for passive infrared motion detector technology to reduce the incidence of false alarms in security systems. The 2000 revision strengthens the features for immunity to environmental causes of false alarms. The standard is intended for use or reference by all security industry professionals. Includes recommended test procedures to help determine compliance to the standard.

Mobile Security Devices Monitoring MSD-01 - REQUEST COPY *
ANSI/SIA MSD-01-2000 - This standard details the monitoring center operations and procedures to ensure a minimum of erroneous requests for public safety responses to Mobile Security Devices (MSDs). It applies to security devices or combinations of devices used for personal safety and/or asset protection that are mobile in nature, installed in motor vehicles or other conveyances, or carried by pedestrians. The standard is intended for implementation by all entities involved with monitoring of MSDs.
